LaBarque Creek Watershed

· This watershed covers 13 square miles in northwestern Jefferson County, Missouri. 

 

 

 

· The main channel of LaBarque Creek is 6.6 miles long and enters the Meramec River 43 miles upstream from the Mississippi River. 

· This is an Ozark land — rugged, and over 60% of the land is considered steep. 

· Deciduous forest covers 89% of the watershed.

· LaBarque Creek is home to 44 species of fish, which indicates that the watershed is very healthy. 

 

 

· The Missouri Department of Conservation has designated this watershed a “Conservation Opportunity Area.”

 

 

 

· The US Army Corps of Engineers has designated this area a “Priority Watershed.”  Special regulations cover construction in ephemeral, intermittent, and perennial streams in the LaBarque Creek Watershed.
